A proposed recall petition filed against the Mayor of Dearborn Heights was ruled invalid by a Wayne County Circuit Court judge, affirming a prior decision by the Wayne County Election Commission, which had unanimously decided that a petition filed by a political opponent of Mayor Bill Bazzi did not meet the statutory standard for approval. In upholding the Commission’s decision, the Court found that the petitions did not meet the “factual and clear” standard required by law, and also set forth legal issues that were not the proper subject of a recall petition. The case was handled by Schenk & Bruetsch partner Tom Bruetsch, who specializes in election matters.
